Description
This course will take the participants through the development process for clinical practice guidelines. It does this by providing the basics of clinical practice guideline and evidence synthesis approaches.

The course will cover the following topics:

• Develop review questions using PICO and PIPOH and planning the systematic review
• Identifying the evidence: formulating, executing and documenting a search strategy

23rd - 24th February - Workshop "Clinical practice guidelines on rare diseases"

 CNMR-ISS is organizing a workshop aimed at sharing experiences and knowledge on methodological issues concerning the development of clinical practice recommendations on rare diseases.

Role of clinical practice guidelines on rare diseases in informing and shaping organization of care models within a health care system will be also debated.

The workshop gathers participants from experienced organizations and institutions in systematic reviews and guidelines production as well as patients associations and policy makers at national and European level.

The workshop will take place in Rome, Istituto Superiore di Sanità on 23rd -24th February 2012.

Alternating hemiplegia

 The alternating hemiplegia (AHC) is a rare neurological disorder characterized by recurrent hemiplegic attacks involving one side or both sides of the body.

The hemiplegic attacks can vary from a simple weakness to a complete loss of movement and sensitivity. They can last minutes, hours, days or weeks and they usually disappear during sleep.

Children with AHC show a wide range of symptoms in addition to those typical of the disorder: hypotonic attacks (lack of muscle tone), dystonic posture (stiffening of the extremities), nystagmus and other oculomotor abnormalities as well as seizures and mental retardation.
