The World Health Assembly has designated 2020 the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife.
Target: try to enhance the vital role played by nurses and midwives in providing health services to the patients and the whole national collectivity
They are two professional profiles able to contribute significantly to the improvement of the global health by their effort to the closeness, to the quality of the health care and of the raltionship, but mainly to the effort and the constant dedication to try to overcome obstacles, backwardness and critical issues of the profession and the health system.
The initiative, promoted by the WHO, will be carried out in collaboration with the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) and the International Council Nurses (ICN), Nursing Now and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
In Italy too the National Federation of the Orders of Nursing Professions (Federazione Nazionale degli Ordini delle Professioni Infermieristiche, FNOPI) will promote a lot of initiatives.
