Back February 2022: Consultation and report launch on implementation of health impact assessment and assessing health in environmental assessments

17 February 2022, 11:00–13:00 CET (virtual)

Health impact assessment (HIA) and health assessments in environmental assessments play a crucial role in identifying the links between policies, plans, programmes and projects performed in different sectors and their implications for human health. This public consultation meeting will bring together Member State representatives and environment and health assessment practitioners to discuss the challenges and opportunities of HIA implementation and an enhanced assessment of health impacts within environmental impact assessment (EIA) and strategic environmental assessment (SEA) processes.

The importance of assessing the health implications of policies and projects of different sectors has been recognized for more than 2 decades and requires multi-sectoral and multi-discipline approaches.

At the meeting, the new report “Learning from practice – Case studies of health in EIA and SEA across the WHO European Region” will be launched and the preliminary results of an online survey on HIA implementation among WHO Member States and HIA experts will be presented. In the second part of the meeting, participants will be free to engage in discussion and contribute with their knowledge and practical experience.

To facilitate the discussion session, the draft survey results will be sent out to all registered participants a week in advance.

Please register here for participation by 10 February 2022.
