Back Press Release No. 53/2022 - COVID-19: Main Monitoring Data from the Control Room

Here are the main data provided by the Control Room:

● There was a nationwide decrease in the weekly incidence: 977 per 100,000 inhabitants (15/07/2022 - 21/07/2022) vs. 1158 per 100,000 inhabitants (08/07/2022 -14/07/2022).

● In the period 29 June - 12 July 2022, the average Rt calculated on symptomatic cases was 1.23 (range 1.16-1.33), a decrease compared to the previous week, but above the epidemic threshold. The transmissibility index based on hospitalized cases also decreased and wasbclose to the epidemic threshold: Rt = 1 (0.98-1.02) as at 07/12/2022 vs. Rt = 1.15 (1. 12-1.17) as at 05/07/2022.

The number of occupied beds in Intensive Care Units rose to 4.1% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health on 21 July) vs. 3.9% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health on 14 July). The number of occupied beds in other medical wards at national level rose to 17.1% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health on 21 July) from 15.8% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health on 14 July).

● Three Regions/PPAAs were classified as being at low risk. Fourteen Regions/PPAAs were classified as being at moderate risk pursuant to the Ministerial Decree of 30 April 2020 (five of them had a high probability of progression), while 3 Regions/PPAAs were classified as being at high risk due to the presence of multiple resilience alerts and one for non having reached the minimum quality threshold of the data transmitted to the ISS.

● Twelve Regions/PPAAs reported at least one resilience alert. Four Regions/PPAAs reported multiple resilience alerts.

● The percentage of cases detected through contact tracing remained unchanged with respect to the previous week (11%). There was a slight increase in the percentage of cases detected through the onset of symptoms (40.5% vs. 39%), and a slight decrease in the percentage of cases diagnosed through screening activities (48% vs. 50%).
