National Reference Laboratory on Food Contact Materials

The national reference Laboratory

The National Reference Laboratory on Food Contact Materials (LNR MOCA), in the Department of Environment and Health of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS, the National Institute of Health in Italy), performs studies, research and assessments on human exposure to chemical contaminants deriving from interaction between the materials and the food matrices  in  contact with them. The chemical contaminants must be identified and quantified to evaluate the human exposure and to assess the risk for human health. 

The designation was made by the Ministry of Health on the basis of art. 33 of Regulation (EC) 882/2004, currently repealed by the European Union Regulation 625/2017. The tasks of the LNR are defined by Article 101 of Regulation 625/2017.

The LNR-MOCA is accredited according to the UNI CEI EN ISO / IEC 17025: 2018 standard
