Back Press Release no. 09/2022 COVID-19: Main Monitoring Data from the Control Room

Here are the main data provided by the Control Room:

  • There was a decline in the weekly incidence at national level1362 every 100,000 inhabitants (28/01/2022 -03/02/2021) vs. 1823 every 100,000 inhabitants (21/01/2022 -27/01/2021). Flow data provided by the Ministry of Health.
  • In the period 12 January 2022 – 25 January 2022, the average Rt calculated on symptomatic cases was 0.93 (range 0.9 – 0.98), a decrease compared to the previous week and below the epidemic threshold. The same trend was reported for the transmissibility index based on hospitalized cases (Rt = 0.89 (0.88-0.9) as at 25/01/2022 vs. Rt = 0.96 (0.94-0.99) as at 18/01/2022. However, several Regions/Autonomous Provinces reported problems with the entry of individual flow data and in particular in the reporting of symptoms in all diagnosed cases.
  • The number of occupied beds in Intensive Care Units was 14.8% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as at 3 February) vs. 16.7% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as at 27 January). The number of occupied beds in other medical wards at national level was 29.5% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as at 3 February) vs. 30.4% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as at 27 January)
  • Three Regions/Autonomous Provinces were classified as being at high risk, according to the MD of 30 April 2020, given the impossibility of making an assessment because the data received were incomplete; three Regions/Autonomous Provinces were classified as being at moderate risk. Among these, one Region/Autonomous Province had a high probability of progressing to the status of high risk according to the MD of 30 April 2020. The remaining fifteen Regions/Autonomous Provinces were classified as being at low risk
  • Ten Regions/Autonomous Provinces reported at least one resilience alert. One Region/Autonomous Province reported multiple resilience alerts.
  • There was a decline in the number of new cases not associated with transmission chains (553,860 vs. 652,401 the previous week). The percentage of cases detected through contact tracing declined slightly (17% vs. 18% the previous week). Instead, the percentage of cases detected through the onset of symptoms remained stable (38% vs. 38%) as did the percentage of cases diagnosed through screening activities (45% vs. 45%).
