Volume 33, no. 7-8, July-August 2020. Sentinel surveillance of sexually transmitted infections based on a network of clinical centres and sentinel surveillance of sexually transmitted infections based on a network of microbiology laboratories

Abstract:

Sentinel surveillance of sexually transmitted infections based on a network of clinical centres and sentinel surveillance of sexually transmitted infections based on a network of microbiology laboratories
Sexually transmitted infections (STI) are widely spread worldwide, affecting millions of people every year. In Italy, the sentinel surveillance system reporting data on patients with a symptomatic STI started in 1991, and the sentinel surveillance system reporting data on people tested for at least one of the following STI: Chlamydia trachomatis infection, Trichomonas vaginalis infection, gonorrhoea, started in 2009. The National AIDS Unit (Centro Operativo AIDS, COA) of the Italian National Institute of Health coordinates both surveillance systems and receives data through a web-based platform.
