The National Register of Growth Hormone therapy (Registro Nazionale degli Assuntori dell’Ormone della Crescita, RNAOC) has been assigned to the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (the National Institute of Health in Italy) in order to perform the national surveillance on the use of Growth Hormone (GH) therapy. The RNAOC has been included in the Decree of the President of the Council of Ministers of March 3rd 2017, which identifies national and regional surveillance systems and registries to perform epidemiological surveillance on treatments and diseases relevant in public health. The Note #39 by the Agenzia Italiana del Farmaco (AIFA, Italian Medicines Agency), which regulates the reimbursement of medicinal products containing GH and their appropriateness of use, has also required the computerization of the register and the annual reporting of data. The RNAOC consists of a web platform for the online reporting of GH-prescription therapy by the Centres of 15 regions and 2 autonomous provinces regionally authorized to GH prescription and includes other independent regional GH-registries transmitted to the national database. As every year, this volume represents the RNAOC annual report, publishing RNAOC data collected by the end of 2019 and a survey on the regional commissions on GH therapy. The activities of the regional GH-commissions are reported in terms of their authorization and evaluation prerogatives.
