This report analyses the data prescription of systemic antibiotics within the Umbria region in 2019. At the territorial level, about 19 daily doses per 1000 inhabitants were used, with a stable trend compared to 2018. Four out of ten citizens received at least one antibiotic prescription during the year, higher levels of exposure are reached in children up to 4 years and in the population over 85 years. At hospital level was observed a consumption of 51,5 doses per 100 days of hospitalization, in the hospitals of Perugia and Terni were detected the highest values. From an in-depth study of the use of antibiotics in nursing homes, a reduction of around 10% of the doses and, to a greater extent, of the expenditure was observed. National restrictions on the use of fluoroquinolones as a result of safety problems have led to a high reduction in the use of these drugs at both territorial and hospital level.
