The fashion and textile industry in Italy represent the second manufacturing field. The current knowledge related to the use of chemicals in production processes have led, over time, to identifying the health effects that these uses can produce, especially skin allergies. This problem is highlighted by the large number of RAPEX (Rapid Alert System for non-food dangerous products) notifications registered for the textile category which, in the 2013-2018 period, represented about 15% of the total notifications for articles with chemical risk. The National Institute of Health in Italy, Accredia (Italian Accreditation Body), the Ministry of Health and the Association of Textiles and Health have therefore organized the Conference “Chemistry, Fashion and Health” which revealed the current critical issues and the necessity to implement a dermatitis prevention and surveillance network and update the provisions on the control of chemical substances as a starting point for a healthier vision of fashion.
