Ecotoxicology has been accepted internationally as a valid tool in prevention of adverse effects in ecosystems. The toxic effects detected in ecosystems can also occur in humans through direct/indirect exposure to chemical substances, including the “emerging” contaminants and mixtures. Therefore, the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (the National Institute of Health in Italy) organized two specific meetings on ecotoxicology and health. The first one aimed to create a network of national experts for sharing and exchange specific experiences and to identify new eco-toxicological approaches (1st Meeting, 27 March 2018). The second one with the aim to elaborate guidelines useful to the policy-makers for the protection of the environment and human health through the establishment of three groups of experts: on legislation, on ecotoxicological methods linked to human health and on ecogenotoxicological methods (2nd Meeting, 25-26 March 2019). In this report some contributions by speakers who have contributed to creating a national network are reported.
