The distribution of safe drinking water represents one of the Millennium Sustainable Development Goals, enacted by United Nations in 2015. The application of Water Safety Plans (WSP), recently embraced by Italian law related to drinking water quality, is one of the tools able to reach this objective. The application of a WSP during drinking water emergencies is an example of the versatility of this tool in the panorama of risk analysis applied to drinkable water. This Report describes step by step the application of WSP by GAIA SpA, a water supplier, during the management of a spread contamination by thallium of water intended for human consumption. The report depicts the different phases of structuring of a WSP, making clear its flexibility in the application to drinking water chain of various extension and characteristics.
