According to the Italian legislation, Food Contact Materials and articles (FCM) made of stainless steel must comply to the requirements of the Ministerial Decree 21 March 1973 and amendments on specific migration limits for Chromium, Nickel and Manganese. In this frame, a working group among the National Reference Laboratory on Food Contact Materials (NRL-FCM) and Representatives of Public Official Control Laboratories for Food Products developed a document that highlights operative suggestions on sampling and testing for stainless steel FCM.
