Indietro Strategic & Technical Advisory Group on Infectious Hazards with Pandemic and Epidemic Potential (STAG-IH)

Background

STAG-IH provides independent advice and analysis to WHO on the infectious hazards that may pose a potential threat to global health security. It has an umbrella function as the overarching group advising WHO on relevant infectious hazards. The STAG-IH was established by the WHO Director-General in 2018 following the recommendation made by the Review Committee on the Role of the International Health Regulations (2005) in the Ebola Outbreak and Response (WHA/69/21). STAG-IH meets annually with working groups established for detailed review of specific topics prior to discuss strategic issues.

Objectives

STAG-IH members, partners, as well as WHO Collaborating Centers and relevant Advisory Groups will meet to discuss and provide strategic advice to WHO on Future Surveillance for Epidemic and Pandemic Preparedness, Response and Resilience, by:

  • Reviewing
    • landscape analysis and horizon scanning conducted by the secretariat, and
    • lessons learnt through COVID-19 pandemic;
  • Discussing and identifying critical needs, gaps, and opportunities of surveillance for better epidemic and pandemic preparedness and prevention; and
  • Achieving consensus on strategy and priority actions.
