Approximately 75% of emerging infectious diseases have an animal origin. Taking a multisectoral, One Health approach is necessary to address not only emerging health threats at the human-animal-environment interface, such as zoonotic influenza, viral hemorrhagic fevers, diseases caused by coronaviruses including MERS and COVID-19, but also endemic and often neglected diseases which continues to have major impacts on health, livelihoods, and economies, and cannot be effectively addressed by one sector alone.
