Back Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) surveillance in secondary care - Respiratory surveillance - Respiratory infections - Conditions and diseases - Our areas of work - Public Health Scotland

Overview of the programme

Respiratory surveillance activities in hospitals (secondary care) include:

  • sentinel SARI surveillance
  • proxy-SARI surveillance
  • hospital laboratory-confirmed surveillance

After the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a need to bring together existing surveillance systems for COVID-19 and other respiratory infections within PHS.

We also need to consider improvements to current ways of working.

This includes streamlining data flows and establishing world-class, national systems for syndromic respiratory infection surveillance.

SARI surveillance in Scotland sits alongside our community acute respiratory infection (CARI) surveillance programme
