Radiation protection

Protection from non-ionizing radiation (electromagnetic fields, cell phones, 5G, UV)

Non-ionizing radiation includes electromagnetic fields (from static fields to radio frequencies), optical radiation (e.g. UV and laser) and ultrasound.

The Italian National Institute of Health (ISS) carries out research, consultancy, control and training activities on the protection of human health from non-ionizing radiation: from the assessment of environmental and occupational exposure levels to personal dosimetry; from the experimental study of biological effects in vitro to epidemiological studies, to study and evaluate potential effects on human health; from the assessment of health risks in specific contexts to the definition and critical analysis of protection regulations.
