Neurological diseases

Prevention and therapies

Some neurological diseases are preventable by addressing risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, obesity, smoking, and low education level.

The pharmacological treatments available for neurodegenerative diseases are often symptomatic, e.g. directed towards controlling symptoms and clinical signs, while for neurovascular diseases and multiple sclerosis there are drugs that can modify the natural history of the disease. Neurological diseases can also benefit from rehabilitation, psychosocial and educational treatments.

The Italian National Institute of Health (ISS) provides current knowledge on prevention and control of neurological diseases to health and social care professionals.
