Chemical substances and health protection
Tattoo practice is a growing phenomenon especially among the younger sectors of the population and is often linked to the idea of the human body as a communication tool.
There is also medical purposes for tattoos to cover pathological conditions of the skin.
The application of the tattoo requires the injection of colored inks into the dermis resulting in long-term exposure to potentially dangerous chemicals.
The problem of the lack of specific regulations on tattoo inks has been addressed at the European Union (EU) level with the elaboration of a forthcoming regulation that will introduce limitations in their composition.
