Back Press Release No. 59/2022 - Covid-19: Main Monitoring Data from the Control Room

Here are the main data provided by the Control Room:

• Nationwide there was an increase in the incidence of cases: 277 per 100,000 inhabitants (19/08/2022 - 25/08/2022) vs. 260 per 100,000 inhabitants (12/08/2022 - 18/08/2022) .

• In the period 2 - 15 August 2022, the average Rt calculated on symptomatic cases was 0.74 (range 0.71 - 0.77), a slight decrease compared to the previous week. The transmissibility index based on hospitalized cases was also below the epidemic threshold: Rt = 0.75 (0.72-0.77) as at 15/08/2022 vs. Rt = 0.77 (0.73-0.80 ) as at 09/08/2022.

• The number of occupied beds in Intensive Care Units decreased to 2.4% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as at 25 August) from 2.7% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as at 18 August). The number of occupied beds in other medical wards at national level dropped to 9.4% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as at 25 August) from 11.0% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as at 18 August) .

• Three Regions were classified as being at moderate risk pursuant to the Ministerial Decree of 30 April 2020, while the remaining 18 Regions/PPAAs were classified as being at low risk.

• Nine Regions/PPAAs reported at least one resilience alert. One Region reported multiple resilience alerts.

• The percentage of cases detected through contact tracing remained stable compared to the previous week (13% vs. 14%). The percentage of cases detected through the onset of symptoms remained unchanged (45% vs. 45%), as did the percentage of cases diagnosed through screening activities (42% vs. 42%).
