Gender-based violence in the healthcare setting: italian role in the european BRAVE-WOW project
BRAVE-WOW (Building Respectful And Violence-free gender-inclusive Environments in the World Of Work) is a European project to tackle gender-based violence in healthcare workplaces, funded by the Citizens,Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) Programme. It includes a two-phase pilot study: the first focuses on identifying and measuring the phenomenon through innovative tools; the second aims to develop targeted prevention and support strategies for both victims and healthcare institutions. The Italian task force is responsible for coordinating field activities and analysing data to identify key risk factors and underlying dynamics. The overarching goal is to promote harmonised data collection across Europe, supporting more coordinated and evidence-based responses at both national and international levels.
Generation Z, epidemiological data, prevention efforts, and the development of informational materials: these are the key initiatives of the project led by the National Center for Addictions and Doping
The National Center for Addictions and Doping (CNDD) of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (Italian National Institute of Health in Italy), commissioned by the Department for Anti-Drug Policies of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, launched in 2022 the first study in Italy aimed at estimating the prevalence of certain risky behaviors associated with addiction (such as social media addiction, food addiction, and internet gaming disorder) among adolescents aged 11 to 17. The survey, conducted in the fall of 2022, involved over 8,700 students from across the country, divided between lower secondary schools and upper secondary schools. The data, presented in March 2023, revealed that about 2 million young people are at risk of behavioral addictions. The project also included the creation of informational materials aimed at promoting the physical and psychological well-being of Generation Z.
The Bollettino epidemiologico nazionale: an ISS peer reviewed journal
The Bollettino epidemiologico nazionale (Ben) was created in 1980 to disseminate the results of the syndromic surveillance of the populations affected by the Irpinia earthquake and then became an epidemiological and public health communication tool for local health professionals, first as a supplement to the Notiziario dell'Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS) and, from 2020, as an ISS journal. Since then, 16 issues with 80 articles have been published. Free, quarterly, open access and subject to double-blind peer review, the journal aims to facilitate the “construction of health” also through the national dissemination of local experiences - epidemiological studies, surveillance, prevention and health promotion strategies - which often remain a local heritage. Ben is only available online at www.iss.it/publ and www.epicentro.iss.it/ben and is indexed by Google Scholar, Ebsco and DOAJ.
Webinar "Improving the Outcomes of the National Free HCV Screening Program"
Italy has adopted advanced policies for the elimination of HCV, ensuring universal access to care and allocating dedicated funding for a free nationwide screening program of key populations and general population birth cohorts (1969-1989). However, the effectiveness of the screening initiative is hindered by uneven implementation across Regions and by critical gaps in the linkage between diagnosis and treatment, particularly among vulnerable populations. The Webinar “Improving the Outcomes of the National Free HCV Screening Program”, organized by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (National Institute of Health in Italy) as part of the CCM 2023 Project, provided an opportunity for exchange among Regions, highlighting results, challenges, and shared strategies to be strengthened in order to ensure a coordinated and equitable national approach.
