Back September 2023 - National Day of healthcare safety and assisted person

According to the indications of the World Health Organization (WHO), from 2019 in our Country on 17 September each year is celebrated the National Day of healthcare safety and the assisted person to indicate how this issue is an integral part of the right to health.
At the international level, World Patient Safety Day, introduced by the 72nd World Health Assembly and promoted by WHO, highlights how patient safety is a global health priority.
Patient and family engagement is a pivotal strategy to advance safety in healthcare. As users of the healthcare system with first-hand experience of the entire patient journey, the perspectives of patients, families and caregivers are invaluable in improving patient safety.  Patient and family engagement has been embedded as a fundamental principle in the World Health Assembly resolution (WHA72.6) on Global action on patient safety and in the Global Patient Safety Action Plan 2021-2030.
The theme for this year's edition is “Engaging patients for patient safety”, with the slogan “Elevate thevoice of patients!”.

The objectives of the campaign are:

  • developing policies and programs with patients: involving patients, families and civil society organizations in the joint development of policies, plans, strategies, programs and guidelines to make healthcare safer
  • learn from patient experience to improve safety: learn from the experience of patients and families exposed to unsafe care to improve understanding of the nature of harm and encourage the development of more effective solutions
  • increase the role and ability to protect patients and families who have suffered safety-related incidents
  • transparent communication of safety incidents to victims: establish the principle and practice of candor and transparency throughout healthcare, including through the communication of patient safety incidents to patients and families
  • information and education for patients and families: provide information and education to patients and families for their involvement in care and promote their awareness for shared decision-making
