Vaccines are a very particular type of drug because they are administered as a preventive measure on the healthy population in order to prevent certain infectious diseases.
They can consist of parts (antigens) of the microorganism or of the microorganism itself in its entirety, attenuated or inactivated.
The vaccines are developed to protect against numerous infectious diseases, caused by various microorganisms (such as viruses and bacteria), and are administered to the population according to a well-defined vaccination schedule prepared in Italy by the Ministry of Health.
Vaccines act through the induction of an immune, humoral and cellular response, and generally require association with an adjuvant to achieve adequate protective efficacy.
