Health risks associated to the use of non-ionizing radiation for aesthetic purposes
The availability of devices based on non-ionizing radiation is increasing on the market for people who wish to modify their appearance for aesthetic purposes. The lower invasiveness of the procedures compared to the surgical ones often leads both customers and operators to wrongly believe that there are not noteworthy health risks. Instead, for some devices such as sunbeds, health risks are well established. It is important for any induced biological effects as well as any contraindications and side effects to be scientifically documented for all equipment, providing a secure source of information for consumers and operators on potential health risks.

How widespread is smoking among health professionals? The informative contribution from population surveillance data
A study on smoking among health professionals based on PASSI data 2014-2018 shows that, in Italy, the prevalence of doctors who smoke is 16% and, in this category, the decreasing trend anticipated the smoking reduction in the general population. The percentage of smokers among non-medical health personnel is higher (25%) and slowly decreasing. This analysis represents just an example of spot-on studies starting from surveillance systems data. Such in-depth investigations provide further informative value in the light of the impact that the pandemic might have had on smoking trends.

The 2022 Annual Training Plan of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, ISS - The National Institute of Health in Italy
Annually, the ISS prepares the Annual Training Plan (Piano Formativo Annuale - PFA) with the training proposals of the ISS Departments, Centres and Services, evaluated by the CME Scientific Committee. PFA 2022 contains 188 training events linked to the ISS macro-areas of activity; 80 events include CME accreditation. The PFA is the result of an important planning work and aims to respond to the training needs of Italian health professionals and public health priorities including those that emerged due to the emergency context.
