Back Press Release no. 07/2022 - COVID-19: Main Monitoring Data from the Control Room

Here are the main data provided by the Control Room:

● There was a decline in the weekly incidence at national level: 1823 every 100,000 inhabitants (21/01/2022 -27/01/2021) vs. 2011 every 100,000 inhabitants (14/01/2022 -20/01/2021). Flow data provided by the Ministry of Health.

● In the period 5 January 2022 – 18 January 2022, the average Rt calculated on symptomatic cases was 0.97 (range 0.86 – 1.18), a decrease compared to the previous week and below the epidemic threshold. The same trend was reported for the transmissibility index based on hospitalized cases (Rt = 0.96 (0.94-0.99) as at 18/01/2022 vs. Rt = 1.01 (0.99-1.02) as at 11/01/2022. However, several Regions/Autonomous Provinces reported delays in the data entry and it is therefore possible that these are understimated values

● The number of occupied beds in Intensive Care Units was 16.7% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as at 27 January) vs. 17.3% (daily survey by th Ministry of Health as at 20 January). The number of occupied beds in other medical wards at national level was 30.4% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as at 27 January) vs. 31.6% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as at 20 January).

● Four Regions/Autonomous Provinces were classified as being at high risk according to the MD of 30 April 2020. Three were given this classification because it was impossible to assess the data they sent; nine Regions/Autonomous Provinces were classified as being at moderate risk. Among these, three Regions/Autonomous Provinces had a high probability of progressing to the status of high risk according to the MD of 30 April 2020. Eight Regions/Autonomous Provinces were classified as being at low risk.

● Fifteen Regions/Autonomous Provinces reported at least one resilience alert. Four Regions/Autonomous Provinces reported multiple resilience alerts.

● The number of new cases not associated with transmission chains remained stable (652.401 vs. 658.168 the previous week). The percentage of cases detected through contact tracing increased slghtly (18% vs. 15% the previous week) while there was a decline in the percentage of cases detected through the onset of symptoms (38% vs. 41%), and an increase in the precentgae of cases diagnosed through screening activities (45% vs. 44%).
