WHO CC for Cystic and Alveolar Echinococcosis

Since 20 April 2016 the Foodborne and Neglected Parasitic Disease Unit, Department of Infectious Diseases at Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS) has been designated as World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for the Epidemiology, Detection and Control of Cystic and Alveolar Echinococcosis (ITA-107).

The WHO Collaborating Centre is aiming at providing technical input and expertise on the control of cystic and alveolar echinococcosis in both humans and animal species through multicentre studies on the clinical and molecular epidemiology, detection, and evaluation of the disease burden.

WHO CC ITA-107 is restructuring, maintaining and expanding data platforms such as the prospective, observational, International clinical Register on Cystic Echinococcosis (IRCE). This WHO CC is also maintaining and strengthening international networks for cystic and  alveolar echinococcosis in humans and animals.
