Press Release No 04/2022 COVID-19: the main monitoring data from the Situation Room

Here are the main data that emerged from the Situation Room:
- The weekly incidence at national level has steadied: 2011 per 100,000 inhabitants (14/01/2022 - 20/01/2021) versus 1988 per 100,000 inhabitants (07/01/2022 -13/01/2021), data from the Ministry of Health.
- In the 29 December 2021 - 11 January 2022 period, the average Rt calculated on symptomatic cases was equal to 1.31 (range 1.00 - 1.83), a decrease compared to the previous week but still above the epidemic. The same trend was recorded for the transmissibility index based on hospitalized cases (Rt = 1.01 (0.99-1.02) at 11/01/2022 versus Rt = 1.2 (1.18- 1.22) as at 01/04/2022. However, it should be noted that various Regions / Autonomous Provinces have reported problems in sending in the data of the individual flow and, hence, it cannot be ruled out that these values may be underestimated.
- Bed occupancy in intensive care units has remained been stable, 17.3% (Ministry of Health daily survey data as at 20 January) versus 17.5% the previous week (Ministry of Health daily survey data as at 13 January). Bed occupancy in medical units at national level rose to 31.6% (daily survey data by the Ministry of Health as at 13 January) versus 27.1% (daily survey data by the Ministry of Health as at 13 January) the previous week.
- Seven Regions / Autonomous Provinces have been classified at high risk according to the Ministerial Decree of 30 April 2020, of which 3 due to the impossibility of assessing them because the data they sent in was not complete; eleven Regions / Autonomous Provinces have been classified as moderate risk. Among these, five Regions / Autonomous Provinces have a high probability of progressing to high risk according to the Ministerial Decree of 30 April 2020. Three Regions / Autonomous Provinces have been classified at low risk.
- Fifteen Regions / Autonomous Provinces reported at least one resilience alert. Three Regions / Autonomous Provinces reported multiple resilience alerts.
- The number of new cases not associated with transmission chains has remained stable (658,168 versus 649,489 in the previous week). The percentage of cases detected through contact tracking increased slightly (15% versus 13% the previous week). The percentage of cases detected through the onset of symptoms has decreased (41% versus 48%), while the percentage of cases diagnosed through screening activities has increased (44% versus 39%).
