Health profile of residents in Italian contaminated sites of interest for remediation: SENTIERI Project’s sixth Report
The SENTIERI Project studies the health status of people living in 46 of the 59 Italian contaminated sites of interest for reclamation procedure. They consist of areas of varying size, identified by the legislator for reclamation due to soil, water and sediments contamination, caused by various types of production plants (e.g. chemical, steel and petrochemical plants) formerly present in the sites. The Sixth SENTIERI Report updates the health status of the general population and for paediatric, adolescent and juvenile age groups, based on the knowledge available to date. It provides scientific and public health recommendations, explores new methodological approaches to the study of contaminated sites, as well as emerging issues of interest like environmental justice.
Internet addiction: the interactive platform of Istituto Superiore di Sanità, ISS - the National Institute of Health
Internet addiction refers to any Web-related compulsive behavior that causes difficulties in the life fields (work, relationships ecc.), interfering with the performance of daily activities. The National Center for Addiction and Doping of the ISS has created an online platform with a geolocated and interactive map to quickly identify the health services in Italy for taking charge and treating internet addiction. The latest update on the number of territorial resources refers to April 5, 2023. The platform was designed as part of the National Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CCM)-Ministry of Health project "Wireless Network. Health and Internet Addiction Disorder (IAD): so many possible connections." The project aims to inform about the danger of excessive use of the Internet and technological tools (social media, video games, Internet), improving the skills of children (life skills) and promoting access of those at risk to social and health services.
Webinar: From the Decree on HCV Screening to the Elimination Target
In order to achieve by 2030 the WHO goal of hepatitis C elimination, considered a public health threat, a dedicated fund for the free of charge screening of hepatitis C is available in Italy, thanks to the Law Decree n. 162 of December 30, 2019 converted into Law no. 8 of February 28, 2020 (Art. 25-sexies). The Webinar "From the Decree on HCV Screening to the Elimination Target," organized by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, ISS (the National Institute of Health in Italy) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, was an opportunity to provide an update on the screening and treatment strategies for HCV-infected patients in Italy. Several regional realities were presented and critical issues were discussed sharing possible solutions.
