Progetti di ricerca correnti

In this section, information is provided about research projects in the field of parasitology to which our Unit (Foodborne and Neglected Parasites), other European (including NRLs) and non-European Institutions are currently participating.

COST Action CA21105 - Blastocystis under One Health (Period 2022-2026). The main aim and objective of this Action is to shape and direct a state-of-the-art and dynamic Blastocystis Network, linking academia, health sectors and industry in order to enhance, spread and apply knowledge and expertise on this gut microbe and its role in health and disease.

EUPAHW: European Partnership on Animal Health and Welfare (EC 101136346)_SOA11, (period 2024-2027). The project concentrates on priority pathogens in livestock, specifically targeting viruses, bacteria, and parasites in pigs, poultry, ruminants, and aquatic animals. It aims to advance knowledge on host species adaptation, biomarkers for significant foodborne and neglected parasitic diseases, and improve detection methods. By investigating across all biological levels, from molecules to living animals, the aim is to improve the methods for detecting these diseases, ultimately optimizing health management in livestock production.

EUPAHW: European Partnership on Animal Health and Welfare (EC 101136346)_SOA19, (period 2024-2027). Development and testing the efficacy of new treatment strategies against key diseases that impact animal health in livestock and aquaculture production such as pig enteritis, pig respiratory and systemic infections, cattle lameness and endometritis, ruminant and pig parasitic enteric disease, and fish bacterial and viral diseases. The project will also focus on new strategies for improving clinical efficacy of the existing antibiotics.

EUPAHW: European Partnership on Animal Health and Welfare (EC 101136346)_SOA21, (period 2024-2027).  For a range of infectious diseases in farmed animals, vaccines are either not available or insufficient. This project aims at developing/improving/consolidating a range of new vaccine technologies along with tools to evaluate/predict protective efficacy of vaccines for use in animal husbandry including aquaculture.

COST Action A25135 - Harmonizing and promoting Sarcocystis surveillance and diagnosis across Europe and beyond (SarCOST) (Period 2026-2030). The main aim and objective of this Action is to establish a collaborative and inclusive European network to harmonise Sarcocystis surveillance and diagnostic approaches, integrating expertise from research, public health, food safety and veterinary sectors to advance knowledge on Sarcocystis diversity, occurrence, hosts and impact on animal health and food safety.

EFSA Tailor Made Activity: From Wild Waters to Human Health: a pilot study to address the knowledge gap on zoonotic helminths in freshwater fish (EURP-PAR-FISH) (Period 2026-2028). The main aim and objective of this project is to address knowledge gaps on zoonotic parasites in wild freshwater fishes by generating epidemiological and genetic data, assessing consumer exposure and supporting risk assessment, while fostering collaboration among partners through training, investigations, data analysis and dissemination of results.
