Detergents
Chemical safety of detergents and issuing scientific opinions upon request of national Authorities are the tasks of the Centre. Substances of interest are those that may have serious and often irreversible effects on human health and the environment, the so-called “substances of very high concern (SVHCs)”. The Centre also evaluates the compliance of detergent products to be sold on the Italian market, as regards the hazard classification and labelling according to the Regulation no. 648/2004.
Since the Istituto Superiore di Sanità acts as Appointed Body according Article 45 of the Regulation no.1272/2008 (CLP), the Centre manages the Dangerous Preparation Archive that is the database containing all notifications of classified hazardous mixtures, including detergents, submitted to the ECHA PCN portal in agreement with Annex VIII of CLP. A national provision of Italian Decree of 28 December 2020 requires that non-hazardous detergents have to be notified to this European portal as well. This database stores all technical datasheets on detergents that had been submitted before the date of the application of the harmonized notifications.
