World Cancer Day: Close the Care Gap

AIOM, AIOM Foundation, and the National Institute of Health, are going to organize the national conference on World Cancer Day. The World Cancer Day theme for 2022-2024 is "Close the Care Gap", to raise citizens' awareness of the differences in access to care. Worldwide, a substantial proportion of cancer deaths is associated with socioeconomic inequalities, particularly with low levels of education and income. The least educated and poorest people adopt poor lifestyles, carry out screenings infrequently, do not access health care systems, and too often are diagnosed with an already advanced stage of cancer. These disparities are less pronounced in countries with universalistic health care systems such as ours. Italy is at the top in Europe and in the world for cancer care. But this result can be improved, because, even in our area, there are differences in care that still need to be bridged.
