The team of the Italian Assisted Reproduction Techniques Register is developing a communication campaign about fertility, infertility and assisted reproduction matters. It has been decided to base this campaign starting from the point of view of both people and health operators living infertility and ART reality, as a way to take account of their own everyday experiences and expectations like the core of these information strategies. Thus a qualitative methodology with focus groups and in-depth interviews has been chosen to gather the infertile couples information needs, taking special attention on what they think is more important and not only on what it is generally considered more important. The content analysis identified 4 main themes: information contents, features, providers and media and channels on which the contents should be presented. It is also suggested that information campaigns should be focused not only into infertile couples but also to the general public.
Key words: Assisted Reproduction Techniques (ART), Qualitative research, Focus group, Infertility, Information needs, Italian ART register
