The Regional Natural Park of the Castelli Romani is a protected area near Rome, which includes two of the main volcanic lakes of the region and a number of ditches and streams. This study analyzes the ecological characterization of these habitats for which biological, chemical, hydrologic and ecosystemical parameters have been considered. The results show a compromised situation due, for the running waters, to the strong level of anthropization of the area. In the lakes the analyses of the phytoplanktonic component put in evidence a particular situation due to the recovery of algal species indicative of organic pollution and belonging to genera producing toxins.
