Doping

The Italian Law no. 376 of 14 December 2000 states that doping is a problem concerning both sports ethics and the protection of the health of those who practice competitive and amateur sports activities. The issue of the medicalization of the athlete and the use of supplements containing substances prohibited for doping and harmful to health is an emerging issues.

The Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS, the National Institute of Health in Italy) promotes doping-free sport and carries on research, training and information on doping-related issues. It also conducts surveillance activities on the national anti-doping laboratory accredited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and on anti-doping control procedures in sports events.
