This guide provides an introduction to metrological terminology as described in the International Vocabulary of Metrology - Basic and General Concepts and Associated Terms (VIM), 3rd edition, aimed to those who are involved with analytical measurements in chemistry, biology and laboratory medicine. A selection of metrological concepts, among those more often used in the analytical laboratory, is explained, with the aid of specific examples, and it is shown how terms and definitions related to these concepts are linked together. This document was translated into Italian to make it easier to use for Italian readers and thus promote the implementation of correct metrological terminology and facilitate communication between all parties interested in analytical measurements, i.e. customers, analysts, accreditation and regulatory bodies. In addition, it could be helpful for education and training in both academic and professional environments.
