In vitro evaluation of quartz fibre post retention.

In this study the retentive ability of post-endodontic rebuilding made by quartz fibre posts fixed in root canal using an auto-photo-cured resin cement was evaluated. In particular mechanical and thermal stresses action on leakage solidity between rebuilding system elements and dental structure was analysed. One quartz-fibre post was observed by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Twenty-eight samples of single root dental elements were chosen, endodontically treated and then rebuilt using quartz-fibre posts and composite cement; they were divided into four groups of seven elements each, depending on which kind of stresses they underwent. Then tensile shear stress tests were performed on all samples using an electronic dynamometer. Results showed that the rebuilding system with quartz-fibre posts is not modified, in mechanical tests, by thermal stresses and vibrations during and after samples preparation.
