2017, 139 p. (in Italian)
Autism is a lifelong condition often associated with intellectual disability and other psychopathological and/or neurological comorbidities. The epidemiological studies that collect systematic information concerning existing services for Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) subjects and their families are considered as a priority worldwide. Parents claim lack of organized health services and trained staff as well as inadequate support in educational and social contexts. In 2012, the Ministry of Health and Regions signed in Italy an institutional agreement in order to harmonize and promote the appropriateness of interventions for ASD people. In 2015 a specific ASD provision of law was adopted (Law n. 134), and recently the Ministry of Health has defined national levels of ASD health care, accordingly. Only scattered information on existing services for people with ASD is currently available in Italy, in particular for what concerns the adoption of the main national and international recommendations. Child and adolescent mental health units throughout Italy have been involved in a web-based survey to obtain detailed information on professionals, people in charge, services provided, instruments used, cooperation and integration with different health and social-educative units.
