Back Geographical Coverage

The fifth edition of the EUROCARE study on cancer survival included data on 21 million cancer diagnoses (1978-2007) held in 116 cancer registries in 30 European countries, with an unprecedented coverage of 50% of the population of the participating countries. 

The population of five European regions was covered by the study: 

Northern Europe  
Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden 

Ireland and UK  
Ireland, England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales 

Central Europe 
Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland 

Southern Europe  
Croatia, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain 

Eastern Europe  
Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary* (*only childhood cancers)

Population-based Cancer Registries collect data on ALL CANCERS diagnosed in their catchment area (province or region or entire country). Specialised Cancer registries collect information on specific cancers only (e.g. breast cancer, hematological cancers, etc..) or on limited age groups (children and adolescents, age 0-19 years).
