May 2022 the launch of the Sea Care Project

On 20 May 2022, the Italian Navy and the National Institute of Health signed a memorandum of understanding to study the effects of human activities, climate change and environmental changes at sea. This study will be conducted aboard the Amerigo Vespucci and other naval vessels. This project is called “Sea Care”. From a Planetary Health perspective, which considers health, climate and the environment to be interconnected, the project aims to collect data on the health of the sea by taking samples in territorial and international waters. Conceived and coordinated by Director General Andrea Piccioli for the ISS, Sea Care also aims to create a uniform methodological approach to overcome the limitations of current, often inconsistent, site-specific analyses of marine pollution.
