Sunlight and vitamin D: can apps also provide useful information?
Risks and benefits of sun exposure with particular attention to vitamin D, as well as the possibility to access useful information through apps downloadable from popular platforms were the focus of participation in Researchers' Night 2025 at one of the stands of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità. The topics addressed in an interdisciplinary manner and the activities actively engaged adults, adolescents, and even children, who took the quiz "Sun and Vitamin D: How Much Do You Know?".

Sweet deception: hidden sugars in everyday foods
Excessive consumption of simple sugars represents one of the main nutritional problems in the Italian population, with an average daily intake of approximately 100 grams, equal to 20.7% of total calories, well above the World Health Organization recommendations suggesting a limit of 10% of daily calories. Added sugars are hidden in numerous foods, not only sweet but also savory, under different names that make it difficult for consumers to recognize them on labels. Reading food labels is a crucial prevention tool to fight obesity, diabetes, and other diseases related to excessive sugar consumption.

The Preparatory Joint Action (PrISMA) and the SAMIRA Joint Action: the commitment of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità - National Institute of Health in Italy
Ionizing radiation is increasingly used for screening, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and palliative care, but it requires constant attention to safety and quality. In this context, the European preparatory Joint Action PrISMA laid the groundwork for the future SAMIRA initiative, aimed at ensuring safe, optimized, and high-quality clinical use. Funded by the EU4Health programme, JA-PrISMA involved 18 organizations from 11 EU countries and Norway. Among the participants, the Italian National Institute of Health served as the Competent Authority for Italy. The project supported mapping key stakeholders, defining shared priorities, and strengthening European cooperation.
