Back Release N°58/2021 COVID-19: the main monitoring data from the Situation Room

ISS, November 5th 2021

Here are the main data that emerged from the Situation Room:
•    The weekly incidence at national level has increased: 53 per 100 thousand inhabitants (29/10/2021 - 04/11/2021) versus 46 per 100,000 inhabitants (22/10/2021 - 28/10/2021), data provided by the Ministry of Health.
•    In the period between 13 October and 26 October 2021, the average Rt calculated on symptomatic cases was equal to 1.15 (range 0.93 - 1.28), an increase compared to the previous week and above the epidemic threshold. The transmissibility index based on hospitalized cases remained stable and above the epidemic threshold (Rt = 1.12 (1.06-1.17) at 10/26/2021 versus Rt = 1.13 (1, 07-1.19) to 19/10/2021). The estimates of Rt are believed to be insensitive to the recent increase in the number of swabs performed, since these estimates are based only on symptomatic and / or hospitalized cases.
•    Bed occupancy in intensive care units is 4.0% (Ministry of Health daily survey as at 4 November) versus 3.7% (Ministry of Health daily survey as at 28/10). Bed occupancy in medical wards nationwide increased to 5.3% versus 4.5% as at 28/10.
•    All Regions / Autonomous Provinces were classified as being at moderate risk.
•    15 Regions / Autonomous Provinces reported a resilience alert. None of the Regions reported multiple resilience alerts.
•    There was an increase in the number of new cases not associated with transmission chains (8,326 versus 6,264 the previous week), while the percentage of cases detected through contact tracing increased (35% versus 33% the previous week). Instead, the percentage of cases detected through the onset of symptoms remained stable (47% versus 47%), and the percentage of cases diagnosed through screening activities dropped a little (18% versus 2%).
