Back Press Release N°59/2021 COVID-19: the main monitoring data from the Situation Room

November 12th 2021

Here are the main data that emerged from the Situation Room:

● The weekly incidence at national level continued to increase: 78 per 100 thousand inhabitants (05/11/2021 - 11/ 11/2021) versus 53 per 100 thousand inhabitants (29/10/2021 - 04/11/2021), data provided by the Ministry of Health.

● In the period between 20 October and 2 November 2021, the mean Rt calculated on symptomatic cases was equal to 1.21 (range 1.08 - 1.31), an increase compared to the previous week and steadily above the epidemic threshold. The transmissibility index based on hospitalized cases remained stable and above the epidemic threshold (Rt = 1.14 (1.1-1.19) as at 02/11/2021 versus Rt = 1.12 (1, 06-1.17) to 10/26/2021). The estimates of Rt are believed to be insensitive to the recent increase in the number of swabs performed, since these estimates are based only on symptomatic and / or hospitalized cases.

● Bed occupancy in intensive care units was 4.4% (Ministry of Health daily survey on 11 November) versus 4.0% (Ministry of Health daily survey on 04/11). Bed occupancy in medical wards nationwide increased to 6.1% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health on 11 November) versus 5.3% on 28/10.

● 20 Regions / Autonomous Provinces were classified as being at moderate risk. Among these, one Region has a high probability of becoming high-risk according to the Ministerial Decree of 20 April 2020

● 11 Regions / Autonomous Provinces reported a resilience alert. None of the Regions reported multiple resilience alerts.

● There was a sharp increase in the number of new cases not associated with transmission chains (11,001 versus 8,326 in the previous week) while the percentage of cases detected through contact tracing decreased (34% versus 35% last week). The percentage of cases detected through the appearance of symptoms also increased (48% versus 47%) and the percentage of cases diagnosed through screening activities remained stable (18% versus 18%).
