Alcohol

Alcohol is one of the main risk factors for disease, disability and premature mortality in Italy, Europe, and in the world. It is the first addiction inducing substance with high social impact, representing a toxic, carcinogenic, caloric substance, often associated with other substance and behaviour addictions.

The Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS, the National Institute of Health in Italy) is engaged in the research, prevention, training and protection of mothers' and children's health in the field of alcohol and alcohol-related issues.

The Osservatorio Nazionale Alcol (National Alcohol Observatory) is the World Health Organization's (WHO) Centre for Health Research and Promotion on Alcohol and Alcohol-Related Issues.

The Helpline Alcohol - 800 632000, through telephone counselling interventions, facilitates the meeting between the demand of citizens and the offer of services in the territory.
