Lo studio riporta i risultati di una indagine campionaria su conoscenze, attitudini e comportamenti sulla salute riproduttiva degli studenti frequentanti i primi due anni nelle scuole medie superiori di 11 regioni italiane. Non si è registrato alcun rifiuto e il 13% (952 su 7484) era assente al momento dell'indagine. Oltre il 95% suggerisce che la scuola debba garantire l'educazione sessuale, il 23% dalle elementari e il 58% dalle medie inferiori. Oltre il 90% ritiene che l'educazione sessuale stimoli maggiore consapevolezza. Il 36% ha avuto l'opportunità di partecipare a programmi di educazione sessuale nella scuola. Oltre l'80% riferisce di vivere con naturalezza, curiosità ed entusiasmo i cambiamenti puberali. Solo il 33% conosce il periodo fertile del ciclo. Circa l'80% ha dichiarato l'intenzione di usare un contraccettivo in caso di rapporto sessuale. Il 18% riporta di aver avuto rapporti sessuali completi e, di questi, solo l'11% riferisce di non aver usato alcun metodo contraccettivo. Il 98% e il 58% ritiene l'AIDS e l'epatite, rispettivamente, malattie a trasmissione sessuale. Poco meno dell'80% considera il preservativo in grado di proteggere dalle malattie a trasmissione sessuale, che, peraltro, sono poco conosciute.

This study reports the results of a survey on knowledge, attitude and behaviour on reproductive health among adolescents attending the first two years of high school in 11 Italian regions. Nobody refused the interview and 13% (952 out of 7484) were absent at the time of interview. More than 95% ask for sexual education at school, 23% from age 6 and 58% from age 11. More than 90% consider sexual education useful to increase consciousness and self-esteem. Thirth-six percent have been involved in sexual education activities at school. More than 80% refer they are living the puberal changes with naturalness, curiosity and enthusiasm. Only 33% know the fertile period of menstrual cycle. About 80% intend to use a contraceptive in case of sexual intercourse. Eighteen percent of interviewed have had sexual intercourses, 11% of them without using a contraceptive method. The knowledge on sexual trasmitted diseases (STDs) is poor. Even though 98% consider AIDS a STD, only 58% know that also hepatitis is a sexual trasmitted disease. About 80% think that condom is useful in preventing STDs.
