Che genere di lingua? The role of words in the creation of a 'broad' society, April 22 2022

On April 22nd the first seminar belonging to a series of meetings on gender language promoted by the Comitato Unico di Garanzia (CUG) of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS) titled Che genere di lingua? The role of words in the creation of a 'broad' society, was held by the sociolinguist Prof. Vera Gheno.

The seminar is one of the many Positive Actions included in the Three-Year Plan 2022-2024 aimed at promoting staff awareness initiatives for a culture of respect and equal opportunities. The CUG promotes a series of meetings with expert linguists to reflect on gender language, recognizing the importance of greater linguistic awareness and a non-discriminatory use of language to encourage cultural change and equitable gender representation.

The initiative is an opportunity to reflect in the workplace on the use of a non-sexist, inclusive and gender-friendly language and on good communication practices, also in order to start a process that will lead to Guidelines to consider gender in administrative language and documents.
