The Health Impact Assessment (HIA)
Back Does the environmental impact study (EIS) support the HIA?
The EIS study is one of the documents that the proponent must prepare in order to submit the project to the EIA procedure; it is very supportive. However, since it is prepared to assess environmental aspects, from which health aspects also follow, it must be verified that the EIS has taken into account all aspects that may also be of concern for health, and that the environmental characterization has taken into account recommendations to protect health. The main example is the different limits that environmental concentrations of certain pollutants in the atmosphere have in the regulations and for health protection. Generally, the EIS does not include, for example, the ecotoxicological assessment recommended by the ISS VIS LGs and supporting health assessments.
