Back Press Release No. 56/2022 COVID-19: Main Monitoring Data from the Control Room

Here are the main data provided by the control room:

● There was a nationwide decrease in the weekly incidence of cases: 365 per 100,000 inhabitants (05/08/2022 - 11/08/2022) vs. 533 per 100,000 inhabitants (29/07/2022 - 04/08/2022).

● In the period 20 July - 2 August 2022, the average Rt calculated on symptomatic cases was 0.81 (range 0.78 - 0.85), a decrease compared to the previous week. The transmissibility index based on hospitalized cases also decreased and was below the epidemic threshold: Rt = 0.76 (0.73-0.79) as at 02/08/2022 vs Rt = 0.82 (0.80-0.84) as at 26/07/2022.

● The number of beds occupied in the Intensive Care Units dropped to 3.2% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as at 11 August) from 3.6% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as at 04 August). The number of occupied beds in other medical wards at national level dropped to 13.0% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as at 11 August) from 15.2% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as at 04 August).

●Two Regions/PPAAs were classified as being at moderate risk pursuant to the Ministerial Decree of 30 April 2020, while the remaining 19 Regions/PPAAs were classified as being at low risk.

● Seven Regions/PPAAs reported at least one resilience alert. Two Regions reported multiple resilience alerts.

● The percentage of cases detected through contact tracing was virtually stable compared to the previous week (13% vs. 12%). The percentage of cases detected through the onset of symptoms was stable (44% vs. 44%), and the percentage of cases diagnosed through screening activities decreased slight.ly (43% vs. 44%). The current situation characterized by a high incidence does not allow for a precise mapping of the contacts of cases, as evidenced by the low percentage of cases detected through the tracing activity
