Back Press Release No. 58/2022 COVID-19: Main Monitoring Data from the Control Room

These are the main data provided by the Control Room:

● There was a nationwide decrease in the weekly incidence of cases: 260 per 100.000 inhabitants (12/08/2022 - 18/08/2022) vs. 365 per 100.000 inhabitants (05/08/2022 - 11/08/2022).

● In the period 27 July – 9 August 2022, the average Rt calculated on symptomatic cases was 0.77 (range 0.74-0.80), a decrease compared to the previous week. The transmissibility index based on hospitalized cases was below the epidemic threshold: Rt = 0.77 (0.73-0.80) as at 09/08/2022 vs. Rt = 0.76 (0.73-0.79) as at 02/08/2022.

● The number of occupied beds in Intensive Care Units dropped to 2.7% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as at 18 August) from 3.2% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as at 11 August). The number of occupied beds in other medical wards at national level dropped to 11.0% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as at 18 August) from 13.0% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as at 11 August) .

● One Region/PPAA was classified as being at moderate risk in pursuance of the MD of 30 April 2020, while the remaining 20 Regions/PPAAs were classified as being at low risk.

● Seven Regions/PPAAs reported at least one resilience alert. One Region reported multiple resilience alerts.

● The percentage of cases detected through contact tracing was stable compared to the previous week (14% vs. 13%). The percentage of cases detected through the onset of symptoms was also stable (45% vs. 44%), as was the percentage of cases diagnosed through screening activities (42% vs. 43%).
