Back Press Release No. 60/2022 - COVID-19: Main Monitoring Data from the Control Room

These are the main data provided by the Control Room:

● There was a nationwide decrease in the weekly incidence of cases: 243 per 100.000 inhabitants (26/08/2022 - 01/09/2022) vs. 277 per 100.000 inhabitants (19/08/2022 - 25/08/2022).

● In the period 10 – 23 August 2022, the average Rt calculated on symptomatic cases was 0.81 (range 0.70-1.05), a slight increase compared to the previous week. The transmissibility index based on hospitalized cases was below the epidemic threshold: Rt = 0.85 (0.82-0.89) as at 23/08/2022 vs. Rt = 0.75 (0.72-0.77) as at 15/08/2022.

● The number of occupied beds in Intensive Care Units dropped to 2.1% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as at 01 ) from 2.4% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as at 25 August). The number of occupied beds in other medical wards at national level dropped to 7.7% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as at 01 September) from 9.4% (daily survey by the Ministry of Health as at 25 August).

● Twelve Regions were classified as being at low risk in pursuance of the MD of 30 April 2020, the remaining 9 Regions/PPAAs were classified as being at low risk. Nine Regions/PPAAs reported at least one resilience alert. Two Regions reported multiple resilience alerts.

● The percentage of cases detected through contact tracing dropped slightly compared to the previous week (12% vs. 13%) while the percentage of cases detected through the onset of symptoms increased (48% vs. 45%). The percentage of cases diagnosed through screening activities decreased (40% vs. 42%)
