The health impact assessment procedure’s main indicator of health impact is based on Attributable Cases. Attributable Cases are computed considering the expected variation in exposure due to the ‘work’ (industrial project) under evaluation for contaminants for which epidemiological dose-response functions are available. Other indicators that can be potentially usable (also for the health impact assessment of different diseases) are:
- The Years of Life Lost (YLL) - years of life lost for premature death
- The Years of Healthy Life Lost due to Disability (YLD) - years of life in bad health due to disability
- The Disability-Adjusted Life Year (DALY) - an indicator that considers and sums YLL and YLD
